Ooo...I had saved this one for this morning when I could indulge with a great cup of coffee and a quiet house. And, your words found my heart with Inconvenient Truth #2. "And that while I may occasionally waste my own time— I rarely permit someone else to waste my time. You wouldn’t give someone your money to go waste for you, right?" Damn, girl. Your January may have really stunk, but your writing was in oak barrels being perfected into something absolutely delicious. Thank you. I can begin February now.
YES TO OHIO! lol. I’m in the process of finally getting my kiddos’ Irish citizenship done (bc: emergency exit strategy if needed) and it’s such a pain but if I just get it done and deal with it, it becomes less of this heavy cloud hanging over my head all the live long day. Such great tips here! And glad you’re feeling better 💚
Oh man, Ireland as a backup plan is equal parts bad-ass and terrifying. Also I can’t imagine anything with more relentless admin than duel citizenship!
I told my husband TWICE this week that I can handle the raising of my kids, the part time job, the taking care of my mental and physical health (working out, journaling, going to bed on time).
WHAT I CANNOT HANDLE is the admin of life. It's the fact that I volunteered to manage Girl Scout Cookies (NO ONE DO THIS!) and that I need to buy Valentine's Cards and that it's the 100th day of school and kids must dress like old people.
The timer suggestion is brilliance at its best. I have the Pomodoro link open on my laptop to sort out tout suite.
Finally, my friend bought the AYR striped tee and she said it's the best striped tee she's ever had (take from that what you will). Sincerely your enabling friend.
I’m laughing with you not at you about Girl Scout cookies. The admin of school aged kids is INTENSE. I think @Xue just inspired me to try a no-buy month— so resisting that stripe shirt will be a good first test of my own will. 🧘♀️
Hi February! So sorry you got slammed with the flu, Jen. I’m glad you were able to rest and recover and hopefully there will be smoother sailing in the weeks ahead. I, too, just got readers (I’ve had terrible eyesight my whole life) but went the Amazon route to test them out first. I love the Caddis ones you got! Hope you’re fully on the mend!❤️🩹
I welcomed 2025 with the flu / fever and while it was only 2 days, my demon cough lasted the entire month. I’m similar to you in that I hadn’t had a flu or cough like that in years!! Love you, January.
Ugh sorry you had the flu. I had it bad at the end of December. I watched the whole season of Fallout in two days. Other good shows to keep on the radar: Somebody, Somewhere (mine and all the lesbians at my friend’s New Year’s party’s favorite (is my grammar right there?)), and We Are Lady Parts.
I just wanted to say I’ve been using your “put on a timer and clean for a set amount of minutes” trick and it is BRILLIANT. My kitchen is so much closer to being under control.
I’m so happy. Wish I knew knew the psychology of why it works, but it just does. I was dreading cleaning out the fridge and 10 minutes later of just doing it, this awful chore was behind me.

February is already trying to be weird!
This is brilliant! X
Thank you Jennie!

They actually have triple citizenship believe it or not I am very very tired of paperwork lololol
That is ninja level 10 paperwork. Good grief.
You always give EXACTLY what I need

I will send you all the willpower and encouragement in this way!! You can do it ✊

Thank you friend. “Reader” culture is definitely taking me a minute to get used to. Whole Foods actually has a cute pair I’m going to try as a backup.
Let me know how you like them!

Demon cough is the world’s worst. Here’s to our rising!

THANK you for these recs. I hope it's a while until I need them- but I am definitely saving. Xx

I think it’s because otherwise we think we’re going to be stuck doing these tasks forever, but ten minutes feels reasonable and doable
